SoleWise Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us.
Effective Date: May 1, 2026 · Last Updated: May 1, 2026
Code Mill Technologies, LLC ("we", "us", or "our") publishes SoleWise, an iOS application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, how it's used, and the choices available to you.
SoleWise does not require an account. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other identifying information about you.
Information the App Handles
SoleWise stores the following information locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework:
- Shoe data — Names, brands, photos, and mileage targets you enter.
- Mileage entries — Distance, date, and optional notes for each activity.
- Apple Health data — If you grant permission, the App reads walking and running workout data from Apple Health to log mileage to your shoes.
- Photos — If you add photos to your shoes, they are copied into the App's sandbox and stored locally on your device. The App does not retain references to your broader photo library.
- Preferences — Your settings (units, notification preferences, appearance) are stored locally.
Data Storage and Transmission
All your data is stored locally on your device. SoleWise has no server backend and does not transmit your data to any external servers, ever. Your shoe data, mileage history, photos, and preferences remain entirely on your device.
iCloud Backup: If you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device, App data may be included in your encrypted device backup, which is managed by Apple under Apple's privacy practices. SoleWise does not have access to these backups, and we do not control or process them.
Apple Health (HealthKit) Integration
SoleWise requests read-only access to your Apple Health walking and running workout data. This access is entirely optional and can be enabled or disabled at any time in the App's Settings screen or in the iOS Health app under Sources.
In compliance with Apple's HealthKit policies:
- HealthKit data is processed on-device only and is never transmitted off your device.
- We will never use HealthKit data for advertising, marketing, or any data-mining purposes other than improving your experience within the App.
- We do not share HealthKit data with any third parties.
- We do not use HealthKit data for research without your explicit consent (the App does not currently support research use cases at all).
Third-Party Services and Tracking
SoleWise does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or tracking services. We do not share your data with any third parties.
SoleWise does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, the App may send local notifications to alert you when a shoe's mileage is approaching its replacement threshold. These notifications are generated entirely on your device. SoleWise does not use Apple's push notification service or any external notification infrastructure.
Widgets
SoleWise includes Home Screen widgets that display shoe mileage information. Widget data is shared between the main app and the widget extension using an on-device App Group container. No data leaves your device.
Security
Your data is protected by iOS's built-in device security, including the device passcode and biometric authentication (Face ID / Touch ID) where you have those enabled. Because no data leaves your device, there are no servers, databases, or transmission paths for us to secure on your behalf.
Children's Privacy
SoleWise is not directed at children. In compliance with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. Because the App does not collect identifying information from anyone, no such information about children is processed regardless.
Your Rights
California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
Because SoleWise does not collect personal information, does not sell or share data, and stores all App data locally on your device under your control, these rights are effectively satisfied by your direct ability to view, edit, and delete data within the App or by uninstalling it.
EU and UK Residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Residents of the European Union and United Kingdom have rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability.
Because SoleWise processes data only on your device and we do not act as a data controller for any personal data transmitted to us, these rights are exercised directly through the App's interface or by deleting the App. If you have questions about your rights, please contact us using the details below.
Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control:
- Delete individual shoes, photos, or mileage entries within the App at any time.
- Revoke Apple Health access in the iOS Health app under Sources → SoleWise.
- Delete the App from your device to remove all SoleWise data.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Material changes will also be communicated within the App. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
